The 28.5″ (72cm) eagle is a less common Reichsbahn eagle in collections today. It adorned the many trains of the Third Reich and many were taken by allied veterans during and after the war as souvenirs.

The 720mm (28″) eagles were designed for use on train cars, although this was not strictly adhered to.

 

Known materials:

  • GAL Mg Si (The composition of the material used to make the alloy – Aluminium, Magnesium, Silicon)
  • GAL Mg (Hy) (The composition of the material used to make the alloy – Aluminium, Magnesium, (Hydronalium). (Rhein-Metall Borsig)
  • Bronze version – Rg5 (The composition of the material used to make the eagle – Rotguss (legierung) – 85% Copper, 5% Tin, 7% Zinc, 4% Lead and 0.08% Sulphur). More information on the Bronze Rheingold Garthe is here
  • Aluminium version – Gal-Mg.Si PAV (The composition of the material used to make the alloy – Aluminium, Magnesium, Silicon, Pantal). Note the dash between GAL and Mg and the period before the Si.(Garthe)
